Unfortunatelydisastercamein1995whenhefellfromhishorseandbrokehisback.Thedoctorsdidnotexpecthimtolive.However,hemadeamazingprogress.Atfirst,hecouldn’tbreatheonhisown.Hewouldneverlifewithgreatcourage.
Thesecondyearafterhisaccident,Christopherreturnedtofilmmaking.Healsoraisedalotofmoneytopromotemedicalresearchintobackinjuries.HemadespeechesallovertheUSAabouthisexperiences.Thisnotonlydrewpublicattentiontoresearchintobackinjuriesbutalsoencouragedalotofpeoplelivingwithallkindsofproblems

“No.fourdaysaftertheinjury,Icametounderstandmysituation.MywifeDanaandIwereinthehospital.ThedoctorsaidIwasnotgoingtopullthrough.Danasaid:‘Butyou’restillyou,andIloveyou.’Andthatsavesmylife.SincethatmomentIhaveneverthoughtofgivingup.Ofcourse,I’vehadmomentoffeelingsorryformyself,butI’veneverhadanythoughtsofcommittingsuicide.”
