Abstract:Thispaperdiscussestheimagesegmentationusinggeodesicac-
tivecontoursmodel.Thegeodesicactivecontoursmodel,whichisbasedon
theenergy-basedclassicalactivecontours(snakes)model,whichisanenergy
minimizationmodel,overcomessomedrawbacksofsnakesmodelandgainsome
advantagesofgeometricactivecontoursmodel.Thelevelsetmethod,usingan
implicitrepresentationforthemovinginterface,isasimpleande±cientmethod
forsolvinggeodesicactivecontoursmodel.Whenconsiderdiscretizationsofspace
andtime,weusingsemi-implicitadditiveoperatorsplitting(AOS)schemeswhich
arestableforalltimestepsifnoballoonforcesarepresent.Experimentsshow
thatthegeodesicactivecontoursmodelcansegmentimagesautomaticallyand
candetectmorethanoneobjectwhichmightbenonconvex,andAOSschemes,
undertypicalaccuracyrequirements,aremuchmoree±cientthanthewidely
usedexplicitschemes.
