x09Inthe14thcentury,theeatingofmooncakesat"ZhongQiuJie"wasgivenanewsignificance.ThestorygoesthatwhenZhuYuanZhangwasplottingtooverthrowtheYuandynastystartedbytheMongolians,therebelshidtheirmessagesintheMid-Autumnmooncakes.ZhongQiuJieishencealsoacommemorationoftheoverthrowoftheMongoliansbytheHanpeople.DuringtheYuandynasty(A.D.1280-1368)ChinawasruledbytheMongolianpeople.LeadersfromtheprecedingSungdynasty(A.D.960-1280)wereunhappyatsubmittingtoforeignrule,andsethowtocoordinatetherebellionwithoutitbeingdiscovered.Theleadersoftherebellion,knowingthattheMoonFestivalwasdrawingnear,orderedthemakingofspecialcakes.Backedintoeachmooncakewasamessagewiththeoutlineoftheattack.Onthenightofthe[Page]MoonFestival,therebelssuccessfullyattackedandoverthrewthegovernment.
